We are still active in Unified Socialist: Bhusal

KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal has said that although many leaders from his party have joined the unification process, his faction is still strong and active in the party.

Organizing a press meet on Wednesday, Bhusal said his group is still active in the party as a strong force. “Although a majority of the Central Committee members have joined the unification, our team remains strong,” Bhusal said. “We may have fewer office-bearers, but we still have a significant presence in the Standing Committee, the Politburo and the Central Committee. At the district level, we still hold a majority.”

Most of the Unified Socialist leaders have joined  the unification process with the CPN (Maoist Center) and seven fringe left parties, while some leaders like Ramkumari Jhankri and Kisan Shrestha have expressed their intent to return back to UML.

Bhusal also said the unification between the CPN (Maoist Center) and the Unified Socialist is flawed. “There is no clarity of vision in the unification process led by Madhav Kumar Nepal,” he said. “The problem is not in the number of people but in ideas and direction.”

He insisted that even though the majority faction of the party has joined the merger, his group will continue to remain active under the name of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and maintain its independent identity.

Bhusal also announced that his faction will organise a national gathering in late November. “We will hold serious discussions at that gathering and decide our next steps,” he said.
