Ward chair shot dead by assistant head constable in Dhanusha: Police

KATHMANDU: A ward chairperson has been shot dead in Dhanusha.

According to the District Police Office, Dhanusha, the deceased has been identified as Bindeshwar Prasad Yadav, Ward 9 chairperson of Mithila Bihari Municipality.

“He was in his neighbourhood when the incident happened. He died on the spot,” said Rajendra Prasad Yadav, the mayor of Mithila Bihari.

SP Rugam Kunwar, chief of the District Police Office, Dhanusha, said the ward chairperson was shot by Assistant Constable Shambhu Yadav. “Preliminary investigation shows that Assistant Constable Shambhu Yadav, who was on home leave, shot the ward chairperson after a dispute between the two escalated,” Kunwar said. “Four others were injured in the incident.”

Police have taken Assistant Constable Yadav into custody for further investigation.

SP Kunwar said an investigation was underway into how the Assistant Constable managed to acquire a weapon, as police personnel must deposit their weapons while on home leave.
