KATHMANDU: Wai Wai has handed over the promised incentive money to Nepali players who participated in the 2024 ICC Men’s World Cup.
CG Foods Nepal Limited, a subsidiary of Chaudhary Group, presented a check for Rs 1 million to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) amid a ceremony in Lalitpur on Wednesday.
Wai Wai had announced to provide Rs 1,000 per run, Rs 8,000 for each boundary, Rs 12,000 for every six, Rs 15,000 for every wicket taken, Rs 50,000 for half-centuries, Rs 100,000 for centuries and Rs 150,000 for each win by the Nepali team. The company had also announced to provide Rs 3 million to the national team if Nepal reached the Super 8 stage.
“Based on Nepal’s overall performance in the World Cup, the total amount came to Rs 944,000. CG added 56,000 rupees to round up the total to Rs 1 million,” a statement issued by the company stated.
CG Foods CEO Pradeep Pudasaini handed over the check to CAN Secretary Paras Khadka.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO Pudasaini congratulated the Nepali team for its performance in the T20 World Cup.
Likewise, CAN Secretary Khadka acknowledged Chaudhary Group’s significant contribution to Nepali cricket. He also recalled playing in U-19 tournaments sponsored by Wai Wai.
Wai Wai has been sponsoring the Men’s U-19 cricket team for a long time.
Wai Wai has also announced a support of Rs 3 million for the women’s U-19 cricket team and an additional Rs 3 million for other cricket activities.
Additionally, Wai Wai ran a ‘Predict and Win Contest’ during the World Cup to engage cricket fans. The first, second and third-place winners received cash prizes of Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000, and Rs 25,000, respectively, while four tournament prediction winners each received Rs 15,000 each.
