KATHMANDU: Voting has begun to elect the new leadership for the Bagmati Province Committee of the CPN-UML.

Although five leaders had registered their candidacies for the post of chairman, only two are in the race after three candidates pulled out. Krishna Prasad Dahal from Makwanpur and Kailash Dhungel from Ramechhap are vying for the chairman’s position.

Narayan Prasad Khatiwada and Navaraj Silwal are the candidates for the post of vice chairman and secretary, respectively, from Dahal’s panel, while Dawa Dorjee Lama and Hasta Pandit are standing as candidates for vice chairman and secretary, respectively, on Dhungel’s panel.

Ishwar Chandra Pokharel and Rajendra Rajthala are also contesting for the vice chairman position.

A total of nine leaders have submitted their candidacies for the post of deputy secretary (open). Additionally, two candidates contesting for the position of deputy secretary (female).

The 1st General Convention of the Bagmati Province Committee was initially slated to conclude on September 26. However, the voting process was postponed by three days due as central leaders tried to convince the candidates to select the new leadership on a consensus basis. These endeavors, however, did not yield the desired results.
