KATHMANDU: Voting to fill 17 out of 19 seats of the National Assembly that will fall vacant on March 4 is being held across the country from 9 am to 3 pm on Sunday.
Out of the total 18 seats to be filled through. voting, one seat under the Khas Arya category in Koshi Province has been decided uncontested. Sunil Thapa from the Nepali Congress has been elected unopposed from Khas/Arya cluster in Koshi Province.
Similarly, the President will appoint one remaining member on the recommendation of the cabinet.
According to the Election Commission, voting is underway at voting centers across all seven provinces.
Voting centers have been set up at the Provincial Election Office premises in Biratnagar for Koshi Province, Mahendranarayan Nidhi Mithila Culture Center, Janakpurdham, for Madhes, Bhutandevi Secondary School, Hetauda, for Bagmati Province, and Provincial Election Office premises in Pokhara for Gandaki.
Similarly, voting is being held at Karmachari Milan Center in Ghorahi for Lumbini, the Provincial Election Office premises in Birendranagar for Karnali Province, and the Provincial Election Office premises in Dhangadhi for Sudurpaschim.
Members of the provincial assemblies, and chiefs and deputy chiefs of local units form the electoral college for the election.
