KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak has instructed the District Administration Offices and District Security Committee of Lalitpur to send details of flood- and landslide-affected families immediately.
After inspecting flood and landslide-affected areas in Lalitpur on Sunday, he stated that the government plans to provide relief within three days.
“The government has taken this problem seriously. It is our responsibility to make people’s lives easier by conducting rescue operations and distributing relief materials as quickly as possible,” Lekhak said. “As the work of collecting accurate details of the damage is also ongoing, it is necessary for everyone to work sensitively on this.”
He added that injured victims were receiving free treatment.
Lekhak also inspected the Anandaban Hospital area in Lele, which was damaged by a landslide. Vivek Singh, who had been working as a Research Technical Officer at the hospital for the past three decades, died in the landslide.
Chief District Officer (CDO) of Lalitpur, Tulsi Bahadur Shrestha, informed Minister Lekhak that families of 39 deceased individuals have received Rs 200,000 each from the local administration. He said that families of the remaining deceased would be provided with the funds very soon.
Floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains claimed 44 lives in Lalitpur district.
