KATHMANDU: US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Donald Lu, has arrived in Nepal as part of his three-day visit.
Lu landed in Kathmandu on Sunday morning after completing visits to Sri Lanka and India. The US diplomat of Chinese descent is set to engage with Nepali leaders and civil society during his stay in Kathmandu.
Sources say Lu discussed Nepal-related matters during his meetings in India where he focused on the overall dynamics of the South Asian region.
The US Embassy in Kathmandu stated that Lu’s visit will include a press briefing and interactions with youth. The embassy expressed confidence that his visit would strengthen Nepal-US collaboration in areas such as environmental conservation, women’s empowerment, cultural preservation and sustainable development.
“His visit underscores the commitment to strengthening US-Nepal ties and advancing cooperation in key areas: environmental security, women’s empowerment, cultural preservation and sustainable development,” the US Embassy in Kathmandu said in a social media post.
