Upper Tamakoshi resumes partial generation

KATHMANDU: The Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project (456 MW), which sustained damages due to heavy rains and floods in the last week of September, resumed partial generation on Tuesday evening.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the project based in Dolakha district is presently generating 120 MW.

The largest hydropower project in the country stopped generation from 7 pm on September 27 due to high water levels. The floods damaged the control room building, desander, and underground culvert that carries water from the dam to the desander.

Earlier, NEA Executive Director Kulman Singh had directed officials of the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Ltd to repair damaged infrastructure to restore power generation by December 25. Repair works were completed one day ahead of the schedule.
