KATHMANDU: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has unanimously elected its chairman Upendra Yadav as its parliamentary party leader.
The meeting of JSP’s parliamentary party held on Monday elected Yadav to the post in accordance with Clause 10 (1) of the party statute, according to Arjun Thapa, JSP’central committee member.
The post had been lying vacant following the election of Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav to the position of Vice President.
Upendra Yadav, who was defeated in the November 20 election in Saptari district, was elected to the House of Representatives from the Bara-2 seat, which became vacant after Ramsahaya’s election as Vice President.
Sources within JSP say that Yadav lobbied with leaders of the CPN (Maoist Center) and Nepali Congress to support Ramsahaya’s candidacy for the position of Vice President so that Yadav could then contest the seat vacated by him.
