KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) is set to decide on Monday whether it will join the seven-party coalition government.
According to Deputy General Secretary Jagannath Khatiwada, the party’s politburo will meet later today to decide whether to join the seven-party coalition government. Khatiwada stated that the party will make its decision based on the suggestions of the politburo.
The party’s standing committee held a meeting over the course of two days to decide whether to join the seven-party coalition government, but no decision was reached. Some party leaders argued in favor of joining the government, while others suggested supporting the coalition from the outside. The party’s politburo will consider these competing views and make a final decision.
According to Khatiwada, the politburo will also discuss the possibility of unifying the party with CPN-UML. However, Unified Socialist leaders have previously stated that there is no basis for such talks.
The party’s leaders are reportedly unhappy with CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who abruptly ended the five-party coalition to become prime minister with the support of the CPN-UML.
