KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist) has joined the new UML-Maoist Center alliance.
Unified Socialist, along with four parties – CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) – signed a seven-point agreement on Tuesday, following a series of meetings between UML, Maoist Center, and Unified Socialist leaders.
While the previous agreement stated that the position of National Assembly chairperson and vice-chairperson would go to the Maoist Center and CPN-UML, respectively, the new agreement is silent about the vice-chairperson position, although it mentions that the five parties will support the Maoist Center’s candidate for the post of National Assembly chairperson.
Maoist Center’s Narayan Dahal was elected National Assembly chairperson earlier on Tuesday.
UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Unified Socialist Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, RSP President Rabi Lamichhane, and JSP Chairman Upendra Yadav have signed the agreement.
