KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, denied the youth wing of the CPN-UML permission to hold a motorcycle rally planned for Saturday.
Issuing a notice on Friday, the local administration of Kathmandu said it had decided not to grant permission for the rally. “The concerned parties are informed that, under Sub-section 3(a) of Section 6 of the Local Administration Act, 1971 and Section 19 of the Police Act, 1955, no event of any kind may be organized without prior approval,” the notice stated.
The Kathmandu DAO stated that it had received information indicating various groups were planning to organize motorcycle rallies and gatherings at different locations across the Kathmandu district on Saturday. The notice further mentioned that such rallies, processions, sit-ins, assemblies and demonstrations could pose security challenges and complicate efforts to ensure public safety.
“Therefore, the local administration has decided not to grant permission for any rallies or demonstrations,” it added.
