KATHMANDU: Suhang Nembang of CPN-UML has built a lead of 5,673 votes over Dambar Bahadur Khadka of Nepali Congress in the by-election for the Ilam-2 seat of the House of Representatives.
According to the latest counting update, Nembang has received 16,944 votes. Khadka is trailing him with 11,271 votes. Independent candidate Dakendra Thegim is third with 9,054 votes.
Likewise, Milan Limbu of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is in the fourth position with 2,803 votes.
The Ilam-2 constituency of the House of Representatives went into by-polls after the elected representative from the constituency, Subash Chandra Nembang of UML, passed away in September last year.
Suhang is the late Nembang’s son. Interestingly, the late Nembang had defeated Khadka in the election held in November 2022 by a slim margin.
