UML’s statute convention begins today

KATHMANDU: The 2nd Statute Convention is kicking off in Lalitpur on Thursday. Party Chairperson and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurating the gathering.

According to the chief of UML’s Publicity Department, Rajendra Gautam, the convention is being held under the theme “Building Decisive National Power Is Our Commitment; Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali Our Destination.”

During the convention,  Chairperson Oli will present the political report, Vice Chairperson Bishnu Prasad Paudel will table the Statute Amendment Proposals and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel will present the organizational report.

In addition, Discipline Commission Chairperson Keshav Badal, Accounts Commission Chairperson Dr Pushpa Kandel, Election Commission Chairperson Dr Bijay Subba, and Advisory Council Chairperson Amrit Kumar Bohora will present their respective reports. Convention delegates will then hold group discussions on these reports.

Standing Committee member Karna Thapa, who registered a note of dissent during Thursday’s Central Secretariat meeting, is also scheduled to present his views.

Oli’s political report analyzes national and international developments, outlines current challenges, and sets the party’s course of action. It emphasizes building the foundation for socialism under the guiding principle of People’s Multiparty Democracy and envisions socialism with Nepali characteristics. It also lays out a roadmap toward the national goal of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali”.

A total of 2,026 representatives are participating in the convention. The party last held a statute convention in 2021.
