UML’s Central Committee meeting discusses statute amendment, organizational report

KATHMANDU: The second day of the 9th Central Committee meeting of the CPN-UML saw in-depth discussions on a range of issues including former President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s political engagement, party statute amendments and membership expansion.

Vice Chairperson Bishnu Prasad Paudel presented the statute amendment proposal and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel presented the organization report in the meeting.

A total of 58 members shared their views on the proposal and the report on the first day of the meeting on Monday.

Rajendra Gautam, chief of the party’s Publicity Department, said the meeting also deliberated on issues related to the renewal of former President Bhandari’s party membership and her possible return to active politics.

Another proposal discussed in the meeting involved restructuring the constituency-level coordination committees to align with the party’s constitution, Gautam added.

He added that the party’s membership has expanded by 28% over the year.

“The meeting also covered broader issues such as government performance, inflation, and its impact on public life,” Gautam added.

Both the statute amendment proposal and organizational reports were earlier endorsed by the party’s Secretariat and Politburo.

The proposal and the report will be presented in the party’s upcoming Statute Convention.
