
KATHMANDU: Ambar Bahadur Rayamajhi of CPN-UML has been elected to the House of Representatives from the Udayapur-2 constituency.
Rayamajhi defeated Jagannath Khatiwada of CPN (Unified Socialist) by 2,358 votes. While Rayamajhi received 15,251 votes, Khatiwada polled 12,893 votes.
Khatiwada – the spokesperson for the Unified Socialist – contested the election as the common candidate of the five-party ruling coalition. But he didn’t get the votes of coalition partner Nepali Congress (NC) as local NC leader Ram Kumar Rai was in the fray as a rebel candidate. Rai got 10,379 votes.
Likewise, Bhaskar Rai of Mongol Naional Organization and Anil Kumar Shrestha of Rastriya Swatantra Party received 1,430 and 910 votes, respectively.
