ITAHARI: CPN-UML parliamentary party leader in Koshi Province Assembly, Hikmat Kumar Karki, has said that his party was left with no option but to move the apex court.

Karki made the comment a day after Chief Minister Uddhav Thapa receive a vote of confidence from the Koshi Province Assembly in a controversial manner.

Addressing a program on Tuesday, Karki said UML would seek legal remedy as Chief Minister Uddhav Thapa passed the floor test in an unconstitutional manner. “We will file a petition at the Supreme Court as the Chief Minister got a vote of confidence by flouting constitutional provisions and province assembly regulations,” Karki said.

He said the parliamentary party has decided to file a petition at the Supreme Court after holding a discussion with the party’s province committee.

Chief Minister Thapa got a vote of confidence in the province assembly on Monday after Nepali Congress (NC) province assembly member Israil Mansuri, who was chairing the provincial assembly, cast his vote in favor of Thapa.

In the closing moments of the voting, Mansuri asked Gita Timalsina, a member of the presidium, to chair the session and cast his vote. He then returned to the Speaker’s chair and announced that Chief Minister Thapa received a vote of confidence of the province assembly.
