UML to join govt under Mahaseth’s leadership

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has decided to join the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government under the leadership of party Secretary Raghubir Mahaseth.

According to UML Spokesperson Pradip Gyawali, Mahaseth will become Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport. Likewise, Bhagwati Chaudhary, Damodar Bhandary, Jwala Kumar Sah, Hari Prasad Upreti, and Balram Adhikari will also join the government.

Except for Mahaseth and Adhikari, other UML ministers were in the Maoist-UML coalition government formed after the 2022 election.

UML leader Padam Giri has already been sworn in as a minister in Dahal’s government.

UML sources say the party was preparing to join the government under the leadership of Vice President Bishnu Poudel. However, since UML was not given an influential ministry, it decided to join the government under Mahaseth’s leadership.
