KATHMANDU: Lumbini Provincial Assembly member Durga Chaudhary has been suspended from the CPN-UML for an alleged public insult of party Chairperson and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel.
The UML District Committee of Banke suspended Chaudhary, stating that his explanation was unsatisfactory.
UML Banke District President Nirak Gurung has communicated the disciplinary action to the party’s central committee and Lumbini Provincial Committee.
Chaudhary was a CPN (Maoist Center) leader before the party’s merger with UML to form the Nepal Communist Party (NCP). He chose to stay with UML after the NCP split.
A former Deputy Secretary of UML’s Lumbini Province Committee, he currently serves as an advisor to the committee. A directly elected member of the Lumbini Province Assembly from Banke-1(B) constituency, he briefly served as minsiter during Lila Giri’s chief ministerial tenure.
“Instead of acknowledging your shortcomings while providing an explanation, you submitted a written response against party leaders, workers, and the entire party. Therefore, in accordance with Clause 81 (7) of CPN-UML Staute, you are being suspended from party membership,” a letter addressed to Chaudhary reads.
Gurung indicated that the suspension could be lifted if Chaudhary corrects his mistakes.
