KATHMANDU: The Koshi Province Assembly session has been adjourned until further notice due to protests by assembly members of CPN-UML and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
Immediately after the House proceedings commenced on Thursday, UML and RPP assembly members rose from their seats and boycotted the session. Israil Mansuri, an assembly member from Nepali Congress who was presiding over the session, announced the adjournment until further notice.
UML and RPP have raised questions on the legality of the vote of confidence secured by Chief Minister Uddhab Thapa on Monday. Thapa passed the floor test after Mansuri, who was chairing the session, cast his vote in favor of Thapa.
Mansuri has been leading the assembly session as the eldest member in the absence of Deputy Speaker Srijana Danuwar, who is currently undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.
After Babu Ram Gautam stepped down to support Uddha Thapa’s bid to form the provincial government, the province assembly is currently without a Speaker.
