KATHMANDU: Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Nepal, Rob Fenn, paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha on Friday.
During their meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Singha Durbar today, Shrestha congratulated Ambassador Fenn on the completion of the 100th anniversary of the Nepal-UK Treaty of Friendship and wished him a successful term.
Expressing gratitude for the continuous support of the UK in Nepal’s development, he mentioned that there were also multi-dimensional relationships between the governments and people of both countries. Shrestha further stated that institutionalizing the historic changes established after a six-decade-long political struggle through socio-economic development was the government’s primary responsibility. He said the support of Nepal’s development partners would be significant in achieving this goal.
Stating that Nepal is set to transition from the status of a least developed country in 2026, he emphasized the importance of continued support from friendly nations to make this transition sustainable.
Similarly, Ambassador Fenn praised Nepal’s constitution, which has received recognition worldwide, and expressed his belief that there is alignment between the priorities and policies of the government of Nepal and the assistance provided by the UK.
Highlighting that UK assistance focuses on social justice, the campaign against violence against women, and physical infrastructure development in Nepal, he assured that he would make efforts to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries during his stay in Nepal.
Ambassador Fenn also expressed pride in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Friendship and said that it was necessary to further modernize the relationship between the two nations.
“A separate identity of Nepal has been established in the UK, and the people of the UK have a deep affection for Nepal,” he shared, adding that it was their collective responsibility to enhance and fortify the bilateral relations.
