UAE suffers fourth straight defeat against PNG

KATHMANDU: Papua New Guinea (PNG) handed UAE fourth straight defeat in the ICC World Cricket League-2 at the TU International Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur on Friday.

Invited to bat first after losing the toss, PNG scored 246 runs losing nine wickets in the allotted over. Chasing 247 to win, UAE folded for 190 runs in 42.2 overs.

PNG made a strong start as the opening pair of Kiplin Doriga and Hiri Hiri added 72 for the first wicket in 10.1 overs. Doriga scored 55 runs from 44 balls. Hiri Hiri added scored runs before he was out in the 32nd over. Sese Bau scored a magnificent half century, scoring 81 runs from 106 balls. Other batsmen fell cheaply, with four failing to reach double-digit. Chad Soper and Norman Vanua scored 10 runs each.

Aayan Afzal Khan took three wickets for UAE, while Zahoor Khan and Juanid Siddique claimed two wickets each. Rohan Mustafa and Karthik Mieyappan each had one wicket to their name.

UAE added 49 runs for the first wicket, but lost wickets at regular intervals. Aryan Lakra scored 51 runs from 72 balls, while Muhammad Waseem played an aggressive knock of 41 runs from 27 balls. Chundangapoyil Rizwan and Zawar Farid contributed 19 runs each.

Riley Hekure took three wickets for PNG. Kabua Morea and Assad Vala each had two UAE wickets to their names.

UAE will next play Nepal on Sunday.
