
KATHMANDU: The UAE government has granted amnesty to 166 Nepalis imprisoned in various jails across the Gulf state on the occasion of Eid Ul Fitr festival
According to the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi, these Nepalis serving time in different prisons were pardoned following a request from the Nepali government.
The government had formally appealed to the UAE authorities for amnesty through the embassy in Abu Dhabi.
The amnesty was granted on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr festival, which is celebrated by Islam followers worldwide.
“The Government of Nepal extends its sincere gratitude to the Government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the amnesty generously granted to 166 Nepali inmates on the happy occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan and the festival of Eid,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Tuesday.
