Two parliamentary joint committee chairs sworn in

KATHMANDU: Newly elected chairpersons of the two joint committees of the federal parliament were sworn in Thursday.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire administered the oath of office and secrecy to Thakur Gaire, chairperson of Directive Principles, Policies and Obligations of the State Committee; and Ishwari Devi Neupane, chairperson of Parliamentary Hearing Committee amid a ceremony organized at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar.

Committee chairpersons must take oath with the Speaker before assuming their responsibilities.

Speaker Ghimire congratulated the new chairpersons and wished them success in their tenure.

Neupane is a lawmaker of the Nepali Congress, while Gaire is from the CPN-UML.

Speaking to journalists after the swearing-in ceremony, the two chairpersons expressed commitment to working within their respective committee’s scope to achieve their objectives.

National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya, Deputy Speaker Indira Rana, National Assembly Vice-Chairperson Bimala Ghimire, and chief whips and whips from Nepali Congress and CPN-UML were present on the occasion.
