Two Nepalis in Ukrainian custody rescued

KATHMANDU: Two Nepali nationals detained at the Ukraine border amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war have been rescued.

Issuing a press statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Jay Prakash Sah of Rautahat and Sandesh KC of Baglung were rescued in coordination with the Embassy of Nepal in Berlin.

They are scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu later on Friday.

The embassy has expressed gratitude to Ukraine’s Border Security Service, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Germany and other individuals and institutions who assisted in the rescue.

The ministry has requested Nepali youths to exercise caution while traveling abroad and strictly comply with the immigration and legal provisions of the host country. “Violation, neglect or disobedience of local laws can lead to arrest, prolonged detention and even life-threatening risks,” the ministry added in the statement. “These matters should never be taken lightly, as the rescue process becomes extremely complicated once individuals are detained.”
