Two dead as car plunges into a pond in Mahottari

KATHMANDU: Two people have died after a car plunged into a pond in Sarlahi district on Tuesday morning.

Armed Police Force divers recovered the bodies at around 8:30 am on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as car driver Suresh Mahato of Gaushala-10 and Ramakanta Thakur of Sonama Rural Municipality-8 of Mahottari.

The car traveling from Bayalbas to Gaushala of Mahottari had plunged into a pond at Miyakhor in Ishwarpur Municipality-2 on Tuesday morning. Janak Yadav (32), from Gaushala Municipality-2 of Mahottari, managed to escape safely.

Additional security forces from Security Base Sagarnath and Area Police Office Kesharganj were also mobilized for the search and rescue operation, according to DSP Shailendra Thapa, joint spokesperson for the Armed Police Force.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the accident occurred after the driver lost control of the car,” Thapa added.
