KATHMANDU: The Traffic Management Office at Ekantakuna will be opening two hours earlier, at 8 am, very soon.
The new initiative is being taken in to manage the large number of service seekers who queue up from early morning for services like issuing and renewing driving licenses and paying vehicle ownership tax, among others.
This government office is one of the busiest in Kathmandu Valley. Raj Kumar Kapali, chief of the Traffic Management Office, Ekantakuna, hopes that people won’t have to wait in long queues from early morning after the extension of service hours. “It will also discourage middlemen who take advantage of the situation,” he added.
According to Kapali, the office decided to extend office hours as around 200 people would already be queuing up by the time the office opened at 10 am, with some even starting as early as 6 am.
The office distributes around 300 to 350 tokens for service seekers every day. The office also serves an additional 50 to 100 people who come from distant places or require urgent services.
Although the office introduced a token system a few years ago to reduce wait times, it failed to address the overcrowding issue.
