KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police has initiated a traffic awareness campaign entitled ‘Two Minutes with Passengers’ in the Kathmandu Valley.
Deputy Inspector General Poshraj Pokharel, Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police, inaugurated the program by distributing awareness materials and engaging with passengers at a bus stop in Sundhara.
Pokharel stated that the program aims to raise awareness among passengers and discourage dangerous activities like boarding and alighting from moving buses, protruding heads and hands out of the doors and windows, and other unsafe practices.
“We have been conducting awareness programs for drivers and helpers, and we realized the need to launch similar initiatives targeting passengers,” Pokharel added.
Traffic police have encouraged passengers to contact the police hotline number 100 or the traffic police hotline number 103 if they suspect the driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, if they are being overcharged, or if they notice seats not being provided for targeted passengers.
During the event, traffic police personnel distributed pamphlets containing various awareness messages.
The awareness program will continue until July 26 and will be organized at busy intersections such as New Road, Ratna Park, Kaliamati, Kalanki, Maharajgunj, Chabahil, Gaushala, and Koteshwar in Kathmandu, as well as different bus stops in Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.
