Traffic management plan ready for Mahashivaratri celebration

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has prepared a special plan for the smooth movement of motor vehicles during the Mahashivaratri festival in the Pashupatinath area on Wednesday.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Binod Ghimire, parking arrangements have been made at Tilganga Eye Hospital, Sifal grounds, and the Guheshwori corridor road for vehicles of devotees and visitors. “Fire trucks, ambulances and water tankers will be parked in the Bankali area,” he added.

Similarly, parking spaces have been arranged for motor vehicles with entry passes issued by the Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) at PADT premises and Sifal grounds, while motor vehicles of security agencies will be parked at Gaushala Police Circle, according to Ghimire.

“Vehicles entering from various checkpoints will be directed to separate parking areas. The Gaushala area on the Ring Road will be closed to traffic only in case of heavy congestion,” Ghimire said. “Adequate traffic police will be deployed along the corridor roads and inner roads to manage the smooth movement of vehicles.”

According to the traffic police office, all cargo vehicles are prohibited from coming towards Sinamangal from Tinkune, from Bouddha toward Gaurighat, from Old Baneshwar toward Gaushala and Kalopul toward Mitrapark.

“If congestion at Gaushala intersection affects the movement of vehicles, vehicles coming to Gaushala from Sinamangarl, Old Baneshwar, Gyaneshwar and Chabahil etc will be diverted to alternative routes,” Ghimire added.

To prevent vehicle theft and ensure monitoring, traffic police in plain clothes will also be deployed, according to Ghimire.

The traffic police office is deploying 890 personnel for the festival who will be managed by a command center headed by a DSP, according to traffic police spokesperson Sanjaya Bahadur Raut.
