Traffic fine payment goes digital

KATHMANDU: Traffic police in Kathmandu Valley have started providing digital chits to traffic rule violators.

Minister for Home Affairs, Ramesh Lekhak, launched the Traffic Violation Record System (TVRS) amid a ceremony in Kathmandu on Sunday.

The new digital system eliminates the need for drivers to carry physical licenses. Under this system, traffic police personnel will scan the QR code of the driving license through the Nagarik mobile app. Violators will receive a digital chit detailing their offense and the corresponding fine, which can be paid instantly using mobile wallets.

This digitization eliminates the need for drivers to visit traffic police offices to pay fines and retrieve confiscated licenses.

The new system is currently available in three districts of Kathmandu Valley – Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.
