KATHMANDU: Rubina Chhetry became the first Nepali woman to hit a century in international cricket as Nepal hammered the Maldives by 214 runs to record its third victory in as many games in the ACC Women’s Premier Cup in Malaysia on Tuesday.
With the victory, Nepal has advanced to the quarterfinals as the group champion.
Batting first after winning the toss, Nepal scored 227 runs for the loss of four wickets. This is the highest run scored by the Nepali women’s team in international cricket. Rubina scored 118 runs for Nepal in just 59 balls. She clubbed 10 fours and five towering sixes. Bujata Mahato scored an unbeaten 59 runs, while Sita Magar and Kabita Kunwar chipped in with 15 and 13 runs, respectively.
Shamma Ali took three wickets for the Maldives, while Nabba Nashim had one wicket to her name.
Chasing 228 to win, the Maldives folded for a paltry 13 runs in 13.5 overs. No Maldivian batter could reach double digits.
Ashmina Karmachayra took four wickets, while Rubina and Mpuja had three wickets each to their names.
Earlier, Nepal defeated both Bhutan and Hong Kong by eight wickets in the group stage.
