ITAHARI: A Royal Bengal tiger that entered a settlement in Fattepur, near the forest area of Division Forest Office, Saptari, has been successfully controlled using a tranquilizer dart.
The tiger, which entered the Khoriya settlement at around 7 am on Monday, was brought under control at around 6 pm.
The area remained tense for nearly 12 hours after the tiger entered the settlement. The tension escalated after three individuals were injured in the tiger’s attack.
However, a team from the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve managed to control the tiger using a tranquilizer dart, according to Birendra Gautam, head of the Koshi Conservation Center under the National Trust for Nature Conservation.
The tiger had taken refuge inside a shed in Khoriya settlement as it could not find a safe path to return to the jungle. After the tiger remained inside the shed for the entire day, locals and security personnel created a commotion, leading the tiger to enter the house of a local resident, Bharat Bista.
According to Gautam, the female tiger is around eight years old. “A decision on whether to send the tiger to Parsa National Park on Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve will be taken on Tuesday,” he added.
