KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Civil Aviation Office (CAO) is witnessing a rise in its revenue as the number of air passengers shows steady growth. The main international airport is currently operating at its full capacity after experiencing significant setbacks during COVID.

According to the office, it has generated Rs 6.76 billion so far in the current fiscal year. It has targeted to raise Rs 13.38 billion in the current fiscal year, which ends in mid-July.

Passenger service fees and rents from office buildings and shops are the major sources of revenue for TIA CAO.

TIA handled 8.69 million passengers, including domestic passengers, in 2023. More than 4.54 million of them were international passengers—a growth of 30.18% compared to 2022. TIA handled 7.95 million passengers in 2022.

In 2019, TIA handled 7.19 million passengers—a 4.5% increase compared to the passenger numbers of 2018.

Nine fixed-wing and 12 rotary-wing companies are operating in the domestic sector from TIA, while 30 airlines, including three Nepali airlines, are operating international flights.
