KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has extended daily operation hours to 18 hours from Tuesday.
This marks the completion of the first phase of its expansion project.
The airport had been operating on a reduced 10-hour schedule for the past five months to facilitate critical infrastructure upgrades under its capacity enhancement project.
The airport will now remain operational from 6 am to midnight.
According to TIA General Manager Jagannath Niroula, construction of the link taxiway connecting the main runway to taxiways has been completed, while the construction of the parallel taxiway has achieved 90% progress.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is implementing the airport expansion project, which is estimated to cost Rs 15 billion.
TIA officials say it would take another one and a half years to complete the airport expansion works.
