KATHMANDU: Three Star Club climbed to sixth position in the Martyr’s Memorial National ‘A’ Division League defeating Tribhuvan Army Club 1-0 at the Chaysal Stadium on Thursday.
Nigerian striker Ajayi Martens scored the only goal of the match in the 17th minute. Martens utilized captain Bikram Lama’s cross to score past the army goalkeeper. Both teams created chances, but failed to convert. Nawayug Shrestha had the chance to open the scoring in the 2nd minute. But his feeble attempt was easily controlled by Three Star goalie Taha Mohammad.
Three minutes later, Three Start’s Laken Limbu squandered an easy chance created by Martens to score. Similarly, Ayush Shrestha had the chance to score Three Start’s second goal in the injury time of the second half. But he failed to beat the army goalie.
Three Star now has 10 points from six games, having won three matches, drawn one, and lost two matches.
On the other hand, Tribhuvan Army Club has eight points from six games. The departmental side has won two, lost two, and drawn two matches so far.
Machhindra, Himalayan Sherpa share spoils
In another match, Machhindra Football Club managed to avoid a defeat against Himalayan Football Ground, thanks to an injury-time goal by Bimal Gharti Magar.
Satyam Sharma scored from the spot in the 85th minute to give Himalayan Sherpa a 1-0 lead. However, Bimal controlled teammate Chhiring Gurung’ cross in the dying seconds of the match, taking advantage of the lack of coordination between Himalayan Sherpa’s goalie and defenders, to score a beautiful goal.
Both Himalayan Sherpa and Machhindra have six points each from six games. Both sides have won one, draw three, and lost two matches so far. Himalayan Sherpa, however, is ahead of Machhindra in the league table due to a better goal difference.
