KATHMANDU: The cabinet meeting held on Thursday decided to shift three important departments under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers back under their respective ministries.
Announcing the decisions, Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel said on Friday the Department of Revenue Investigation and the Department of Money Laundering Investigation from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers under the Ministry of Finance, and the National Investigation Department (NID) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
These departments were shifted under the OPMCM by former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli
The meeting also approved the Nepal Government Work Division (Third Amendment) Rules, 2025.
Here are the other decisions taken by the cabinet:
- Approved Nepal’s Fourth Cycle Universal Periodic Review (UPR) National Report for submission to the UN Human Rights Council via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Approved participation of the Finance Minister and Finance Secretary in the upcoming World Bank–IMF Annual Meetings in the US.
- Accepted $2.24 million from the Global Environment Facility (via FAO) for the Forest and Mountain Ecosystem Restoration Project in Sudurpaschim Province.
- Accepted $8.7 million from GEF (via FAO) for the Climate-Resilient Transformation of Rice-Based Systems Project in central Nepal.
- Accepted $4.19 million from UNCDF for the Local Climate Adaptive Living Facility Program.
- Extended the tenure of the task force led by former secretary Ramu Prasad Gaudel on harmonizing pay and benefits of state-funded entities by 45 days.
- Assigned Janakraj Sharma, Deputy Director General of the Inland Revenue Department, as acting Chairperson of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA).
- Approved publication in the Nepal Gazette of rules making license mandatory for real estate transactions above Rs 30 million in six metropolitan and 11 sub-metropolitan cities.
- Promoted two Lieutenant Colonels to the rank of Colonel; promoted nine Colonels to the rank of Brigadier General; and transferred three Brigadier Generals of the Nepal Army.
- Granted pre-approval for an O&M survey of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration and its agencies.
- Promoted Joint Secretaries Chiranjibi Chataut and Krishna Prasad Kapri to the rank of Secretary.
- Formed five ministerial committees: Political, Economic and Infrastructure, Administrative, Foreign and Social.
- Accepted the resignation of Joint Secretaries Dr Ram Govinda Aryal and Ramesh Sharma Paudel.
