KATHMANDU: Three high-altitude workers were swept away by an avalanche near Khumbu icefall in the Everest region on Wednesday.
Lakpa Rita Sherpa, Tenzing Sherpa and Badure Sherpa hired by Imagine Treks and Expeditions for an expedition to Mount Everest have gone missing.
Kapindra Rai of Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee told Himal Press from Namche Bazaar that icefall doctors stationed at the Everest Base Camp confirmed the accident. “I have received information from icefall doctor Ang Sarki Sherpa that three high-altitude workers of Imagine Nepal Treks have been swept away by an avalanche on Wednesday,” Rai added.
Although rescue efforts are underway, icefall doctors say the workers are presumed to have fallen into crevices.
