KATHMANDU: Three foreign nationals were arrested at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Tuesday evening with 5.7 kg of smuggled gold.
According to DSP Shailendra Thapa, joint spokesperson for the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal, one Chinese and two Myanmar nationals, who had arrived in Kathmandu from Sharjah via Air Arabia, were caught with gold hidden in their luggage.
The suspects have been identified as Jian Zhong from China and Satt Naing Tun and El Ngone Phooo from Myanmar. They were apprehended in the baggage claim area with gold nuggets concealed inside 12 speakers, according to Thapa.
The joint operation by the TIA Customs Office and the APF Airport Customs Security Base led to their arrest. All three are currently being held at the TIA Customs Office for further investigation.
