
KATHMANDU: Three Nepali films—Laaj Sharanam, Mayabi and Feri Resham Filili—will be released on February 26, coinciding with the Mahashivaratri Festival.
Posters, teasers, trailers and songs of these films have sparked curiosity among the audience. The cinema halls have seen a lull in business after the Tihar festival. Since these films have raised audience expectations, industry people are hopeful that they will draw audiences in droves to theaters.
Laaj Sharanam
Directed by debutant Kumar Kattel, Laj Shranam is a comedy film produced under the banner of JPT Creation. The film features actors from the popular television series Sakkigoni like Arjun Ghimire, Hari Niroula, Sagar Lamsal, Kamal Mani Nepal, Priyana Acharya and Babin Rai as well as Sitaram Kattel, Mahesh Tripathi, Bijay Baral, Arpan Thapa and Prashant Tamrakar, among others. The film is produced by Naveen Shrestha.
Leading movie chain QFX has given the movie 68 shows across the country, including 30 in seven theaters in Kathmandu Valley. According to the production team, the film has been allotted 15 shows in INOX Cinemas, nine in One Cinemas, five in Big Movies, Ranjana Cineplex, FCube Cinemas and CDC Cinemas, four each at BSR Movies, CK Cinemas, Bishwojyoti, Citymax and three shows in Kirtipur Cineplex.
In total, the film will have 150 shows across the country.
Feri Resham Filili
Directed by Niroj Maharjan, Feri Resham Filili has secured 53 shows, including 25 in Kathmandu Valley, from QFX. Likewise, it has been given 13 shows at INOX Cinemas, eight at One Cinemas, five each at Big Movies and FCube Cinemas, three each at BSR Movies, Ranjana Cineplex, SCE Cinemas, Citymax Cinemas and CDC Cinemas. and additional shows at Kirtipur Cineplex and Bishwajyoti. The production team has informed that the film will have around 150 shows nationwide.
The film humorously portrays the story of a young man preparing to go to the US after receiving a DV lottery. The film features popular actors like Binay Shrestha, Supushpa Bhatta, Kameshwar Chaurasia, Neer Shah, Prakash Ghimire, Shishir Wangdel, Ravindra Jha, Laxmi Giri, Mahesh Tripathi, Evan Raj Upreti, Maxem Gaudel and Sajan Thapa.
The story is written by director Niroj Maharjan, while the screenplay is a collaboration between Maharjan and Aakash Baral. The film is produced by Raunak Bikram Kandel under Cinema Art and We Motion Pictures.
Mayavi
Directed by Diwakar Bhattarai, Mayavi has secured 40 shows, including 20 in Kathmandu Valley, from QFX. Likewise, it will have 10 shows at INOX Cinemas, six at One Cinemas, and three each at Big Movies, FCube Cinemas, BSR Movies, Ranjana Cineplex, SCE Cinemas and CDC Cinemas. The film will also be screened at Bishwajyoti, Kirtipur Cineplex and Citymax, among others.
The team has announced that the film will have over 100 shows nationwide.
The film’s story revolves around love and sacrifice. It features Deepika Prasai and Pal Shah in lead roles. Other actors include Prashant Tamrakar, Sushil Sitoula, Karishma Shrestha, Sameem Khan, Laxmi Giri, Anshu Maharjan, Rajaram Paudyal and Ravi Dongol.
The film is produced under the banner of Creative Cine Arts. Dhruva Neupane, Raj Katwal and Chandra Pant are the producers of the film
