Three dead as landslide sweeps away house in Bhaktapur

KATHMANDU: A landslide triggered by continuous rainfall claimed the lives of three individuals in Palase area of Bhaktapur on Saturday.

According to Armed Police Force (APF), the three originally from Kalikot and temporarily residing in a rented makeshift shelter, were swept away by landslide debris at around 10:20 am. The deceased have been identified as Damila Shahi (24), who was pregnant, her daughter Priya (4) and sister  Manisha (14).

A rescue team of ten personnel from Armed Police Force Battalion No. 22, led by Inspector Bhupal Bikram Shah, recovered the bodies from the debris. Nepal Police has prepared the incident report and are making arrangements to transport the bodies for further post mortem examinations, according to DSP Shailendra Thapa, the joint spokesperson for the APF.
