KATHMANDU: Police have arrested three persons allegedly involved in looting in the remote Dolphu village of Mugu district on May 25.
A team deployed by the District Police Office, Mugu, arrested the three from Jumla district on July 5. According to the police, the three threatened women and the elderly in the village by showing a self-loading rifle and other weapons. They looted gold and other valuables from 24 houses and a village monastery when male members of the families were in pasturelands to collect yarsagumba and other medicinal herbs.
Police have recovered some jewelries that the looters had already sold in Jumla.
The three have been identified as Ganesh Bhandari and Purna Prasad Bhandari of Guthichaur-3 and Kamal Thapa of Guthichaur-1 in Jumla. Police have recovered a self-loading rifle, two magazines and 25 rounds of bullets, and a country-made pistol from them.
Police are investigating how the looters managed to obtain a self-loading rifle.
