KATHMANDU: Three Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal personnel were injured when a group of smugglers attacked during a raid at a warehouse in Birgunj Metropolitan City-10 of Parsa.

“The clash occurred while security personnel were seizing illegally stored clothes from the residence of Madan Prasad Gupta in Adarshanagar, which had been used as an unauthorized warehouse,” the APF Nepal said in a statement.

A joint team of the APF Nepal No. 13 Battalion, Parsa; the Border Security Outpost, Birgunj; and the Birgunj Customs Office conducted the raid on Monday morning. Clothes worth more than Rs 700,000 were seized from the warehouse.

Two APF vehicles were damaged when smugglers pelted stones at the raid team. According to APF Nepal Joint Spokesperson DSP Shailendra Thapa, the confiscated goods would be handed over to the concerned authorities for further investigation.

Owner of the warehouse, Madan Prasad Gupta, had been attempting to illegally transport a truckload of hardware goods worth Rs 7.1 million from Birgunj to Pokhara when the Armed Police Force seized the vehicle on Sunday.

“The truck carrying goods without customs documents was intercepted at Pipra Chowk in Birgunj–14 by the APF Border Security Outpost, Birgunj. The seized truck and goods were handed over the same night to the Revenue Investigation Office, Pathlaiya, for necessary investigation and legal action,” the APF Nepal said in the statement. “After recieving information that customs-evaded goods were also stored in Gupta’s warehouse, a raid was carried out Monday morning.”
