KATHMANDU: Thousands welcomed former king Gyanendra Shah upon his arrival to Kathmandu from Pokhara on Sunday afternoon.

Leaders of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) welcomed the former monarch inside the Tribhuvan International Airport, while a large crowd of supporters gathered at the airport entrance to greet him. Supporters carrying Nepali flags, who had arrived at the airport from various locations to welcome Shah, then escorted the former king to his residence in Nirmal Niwas, Maharajgunj.

The crowd caused traffic disruptions in the airport and surrounding areas for some time.

Shah returned to Kathmandu after a month-long stay in Pokhara. Hundreds of supporters bade farewell to Shah at Pokhara’s old airport.
