KATHMANDU: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ramnath Adhikari, has announced plans to take legal action against those misusing agricultural subsidies.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Adhikari said that the names of those who take subsidies without producing anything will soon be made public.
He also said the government will leave no stone unturned to support genuine farmers. “For subsidy recipients facing production declines due to lack of technical services and struggling to sustain their agricultural practices, the ministry will expand technical services across all three levels. We will further encourage those who perform well,” he added.
On the occasion, Adhikari unveiled a three-month action plan with 32 initiatives aimed at improving the agricultural sector. The plan includes measures such as preserving indigenous crops and publicly disclosing individuals who misuse agricultural subsidies.
The minister explained that new programs have been introduced to address issues in the agricultural sector and increase production within three months. “We are working to resolve the issue of chemical fertilizers and aim to import sufficient fertilizers soon,” he said, adding that the ministry has developed a plan to gradually reduce agricultural imports through collaboration with units in agricultural production.
Adhikari also announced plans to promote the production of traditional alcoholic beverages made from millet. He added that new strategies are being developed to increase the production of rice, maize, wheat, and other cash crops.
