KATHMANDU: Ten political parties have failed to get even 5,000 votes under the proportional representation (PR) system in the November 20 polls.
Altogether 47 parties have submitted closed lists of candidates to the Election Commission.
Of them, only seven parties – CPN-UML, Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), Nepal Swatantra Party (RSP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Janamat Party – have crossed the 3% threshold, as per the latest counting figures, to be eligible for PR seats.
The House of Representatives has 275 seats. While 165 of them are elected through first past the post (FPTP) voting, the remaining 110 are elected through the PR system.
As the counting of PR votes nears conclusion, 10 parties have managed to get less than 5,000 votes.
