KATHMANDU: Nepali film ‘The Red Suitcase,’ directed by Fidel Devkota, has earned a spot in the prestigious 80th Venice Film Festival.
The film, which portrays the impact of foreign employment on Nepali society, has been selected under the Horizon category, according to Devkota.
‘The Red Suitcase’ is the third Nepali film to make it to the Venice Film Festival, following the footsteps of ‘Kalo Pothi’ and ‘Seto Surya.’ Both of these previous films had foreign producers and cinematographers, making ‘The Red Suitcase’ the first Nepali film fully produced by a domestic production group to receive this honor.
Devkota also wrote the screenplay of ‘The Red Suitcase’. The movie features talented artists such as Saugat Malla, Bipin Karki, Pravin Khatiwada, Shristi Shrestha, and others.
The Venice Film Festival, scheduled from August 30 to September 9 in Venice, Italy, is a renowned platform for showcasing outstanding works from the global film industry.
