KATHMANDU: Ram Bahadur Thapa, a former Maoist guerrilla commander, has been elected as the parliamentary party leader of CPN-UML.
Thapa, who was elected to the House of Representatives through the proportional representation (PR) system, was unanimously elected to the position.
According to party leaders, Suhang Nembang, who was elected under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system from Ilam-2, had also expressed his intent to run for the position. He had even taken the nomination paper from the election committee. However, Nembang did not file his nomination.
