Thapa make the claim for government formation in Koshi

ITAHARI: Uddhab Thapa, the parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress in Koshi Province Assembly, has officially made a claim for the formation of the government in Koshi Province.

Leaders from the four parties in the coalition jointly submitted the claim before Province Chief Parshuram Khapung on Tuesday.

As per Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, Khapung had set a deadline of 5 pm on Tuesday for parties to make a claim for government formation.

Thapa’s claim is supported by 47 assembly members – 29 from Nepali Congress, 13 from CPN (Maoist Center), four from CPN (Unified Socialist), and one from Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP).

Parties need the support of 47 members to form government in the 93-member Koshi Province. Since the coalition was one short of the required majority, it made Speaker Babu Ram Guatam to resign from the post.
