KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has demanded that the government raise the pay and perks of teachers for holistic development of the education sector.
Speaking at a program organized by Nepal Teachers Association on Tuesday, Thapa said education development won’t become possible unless teachers are satisfied. “Therefore, the government shouldn’t make any delay to provide teachers with the salary that can meet their needs,” he added.
Thapa also said the upcoming Federal Education Act should address the issue. “We will have to bring endorse Federal Education Act within three-four months. This act should address all the issues related to Nepal’s education sector,” he added.
He also said the time has come for schools to become strong through mergers. “We need big schools and big investments in the education sector,” he said.
Thapa also said that the ruling coalition should focus on result-oriented activities.
