KATHMANDU: TS Thakuri, founder of the Nepalgunj Marathon, has been appointed as the ambassador for Nepal by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), a global organization for marathons.
The newly elected president of AIMS, Paco Borao, recently sent an official letter nominating Thakuri for the position, according to a press statement issued by Nepalgunj Marathon.
“We believe that collaborating with you will help achieve AIMS’ goal of promoting and encouraging road running worldwide,” President Borao stated in the letter. “After observing your excellent presentation at the recently concluded AIMS World Congress and recognizing your extensive experience as the organizer of the Nepalgunj Marathon, we decided to appoint you as the AIMS ambassador for Nepal. We expect you to represent AIMS in fostering the development of road running in Nepal.”
The Nepalgunj Marathon is the first marathon in Nepal to obtain full membership in AIMS. Thakuri became the first Nepali to participate in the 23rd AIMS World Congress, held in Osaka, Japan.
As the AIMS ambassador, Thakuri will be responsible for informing race directors and organizers in Nepal about AIMS membership, coordinating AIMS-related activities, and reporting issues or disputes within the running community to the AIMS Board.
